A Musical Comedy about the Prodigal Son and His Hit Song
The 50’s… Ed Sullivan, Elvis, Lucy, Buffalo Bob and Howdy Doody, the Beaver… the innocence of the age of television. There’s rockin’ and rollin’, some stompin’ and some strollin’ and its all going on down at Sweet Sal’s Soda Shoppe. It’s the place to be! Everyone is happy to be there except Johnny Miller!. He wants to go to Nashville and become the Superstar he was meant to be! Produced by The Nathaniel Center (804 Russell Palmer, Kingwood), Johnny Be Good represents their vision to offer up to the community a steady diet of musical theater with family values. The cast is from the Kingwood/Humble area and their performance is proof that excellence in the arts resides here. Those who remember the 50’s will be smiling throughout the show as parodies of their favorite TV shows flash across the super-sized TV set. They will be reminded of how It was in the beginning.... when programs were frequently interrupted by a "Please Stand By-Technical Difficulties" sign... When TV stations didn't go on the air until 5PM and went off the air at midnight...When there was 20+ hot vacuum tubes the size of a ketchup bottle inside the TV that too often burned out... When TV sets had focus, horizontal hold, vertical hold and rotary channel selector knobs... The music is live! The songs are fun! The sets and costumes are great! This is a great chance for the family to watch a show about a family facing threatening challenges, persevering, forgiving and finally coming together again. Original Script and Music by: Janice Thompson and B. Giere White. Original Choreography by: Amanda Traylor and Brittany Saye.
